Just When You Think it Can’t Get Any Better

I am feeling very spoilt by this lavish experience and today didn’t disappoint. I had been looking forward to seeing the famed Kerala backwaters which feed into Vermband Lake – India’s longest lake. On the way to the hotel we stopped in Kumarakom as I was fairly adamant that I wanted a ride on the backwaters in a traditional boat. It was such a relaxing experience riding up and down the canals. There were ducks everywhere and it was so nice to watch people going about daily life as I spied on their backyard activities – washing clothes and cleaning pots and pans in the river. We even trespassed to get a look at the famous snake boats that are raced annually. The boats are so long, fitting 100 rowers in each one.
Feeling very mellowed by the boat ride, we continued to the hotel located in Alleppey and all I can say is wow. Such exquisite luxury! The resort only has 8 rooms, each overlooking the lake and everything so new! The gym, infinity pool and most impressive the food. The chef came to my door to advise there is no menu, he makes dinner to my request and taste. I asked for something with fish and nothing too spicy. I went for dinner a few hours later and I had a small whole fish fried with yumminess, rice, chappati, a potato dish, a beans dish and the most incredible fish curry imaginable – absolutely amazing! I was then brought a hot chocolate brownie with ice cream to my room. Seriously – what more could I ask for (and at a dollar value of less than $15?!)

The backwaters have certainly not disappointed!
