I am feeling very spoilt by this lavish experience and today didn’t disappoint. I had been looking forward to seeing the famed Kerala backwaters which feed into Vermband Lake – India’s longest lake. On the way to the hotel we stopped in Kumarakom as I was fairly adamant that I wanted a ride on the backwaters in a traditional boat. It was such a relaxing experience riding up and down the canals. There were ducks everywhere and it was so nice to watch people going about daily life as I spied on their backyard activities – washing clothes and cleaning pots and pans in the river. We even trespassed to get a look at the famous snake boats that are raced annually. The boats are so long, fitting 100 rowers in each one.
