SPAIN – Part Two – Cadiz

Cadiz is a spectacularly beautiful and is said to be the oldest city in Western Europe, founded 3,000 years ago. The photos will have to speak for themselves. We spent our days sunbaking and swimming at gorgeous beaches in the hot sun while reading “The Book Thief” – probably one of the best books ever written. We visited a beach called Playa de la Caleta (where the James Bond movie, Die Another Day, was filmed). It wasn’t the best swimming beach but still beautiful. You can walk out along the walls to Castillo de San Sebastián – an old fortress. Being Sunday we couldn’t shop but I think our wallets were truly grateful for the window shopping. The people in the hostel were fantastic. At night, we would sit up on the roof top terrace, and then go watch the soccer world cup (sadly I did watch Australia get flogged by Germany – 4:0 – terrible!) We would wind up at a bar for some cocktails afterwards. Our remaining days were spent sunbaking at Playa Santa Maria del Mar, enjoying every second of the sun. On the second night we ended up in the beautiful Plaza de San Juan de Dios where the town hall presides, during the early hours of the morning, learning how to play the card game, “Quems” with an English couple we’d met. All in all, I LOVED this place – picturesque and off the beaten track – perfect.
