Spain – Part Three – Seville

I would like to preface my reflections upon Seville with, I am now practically famous. Details will follow...

Seville is under two hours from the south coast of Spain and being an inland city it is hot, hot, hot. Arriving from Cadiz we were exhausted and nanna napped on the roof top balcony all afternoon. In the evening we headed to a well recommended tapas bar – it was absolutely packed with people but we found some standing room at the bar. It soon became obvious why there were so many people – the food was so good. We had some great food and later headed to a flamenco show at La Carboneria located in the twisty alleyways in front of the cathedral with a new friend from dinner and peeps from the hostel. Exhausted we made our way home ready for a big day sightseeing in the morning.

After breakie we headed to the Cathedral, however were somewhat distracted by the crowds of people and roped off areas. Obviously intrigued we headed over to get closer look AND THERE SHE WAS, Cameron Diaz, driving a stunt car. We had heard Tom Cruise and her were in town for the premiere of their new film, “Knight and Day” which was filmed in Seville so we were pretty thrilled we bumped into them. Turns out they were doing some promo with television hosts. Cameron Diaz would drive them around in a hot little sports car pulling a hand brake turn at the end, then on the host would jump to Tom Cruise’s motorbike and finally a professional stunt car driver would screech around the tracks. It was all quite exciting and was topped off when Cameron Diaz came and said hello afterwards. Yes, she did shake my hand and yes, for one of the first times in my life, I was starstruck.

After our brush with fame we decided to go check out the city itself. We went to see EVERYTHING - Plaza de España, Universidad de Sevilla, Teatro Lope de Vega, Museum of Traditional Arts and Customs and countless parks. Such a big day of walking but there was so much we had to see! By the time we got home I wasn’t feeling well at all. We went out and shopped a bit – I bought too much at Zara and we spent the evening on the rooftop where there was a flamenco performance. It was so relaxing but I called it an early night. Unfortunately the 4 days following this were no so good. I was real sick. Making it to Barcelona was a nightmare and I am just going to skip these days altogether in my blog because they were horrible and I was very annoyed I missed Sonar Festival.
