SPAIN – Part One – Palma, Mallorca

Our adventure began on a Ryanair flight on Thursday 10th June to Palma de Mallorca, an island off the east coast of Spain. We had been warned, this island had a rep for touristy-ness, however we were fairly unfazed by it, being out first experience in the country. Our hostel was in a great location and we crashed out pretty early on the first night after a drink on the balcony. Overnight we were attacked by mosquitoes but we got up, got over the fact that it was intermittently raining and went to explore the old town. We went to the cathedral, wandered the streets of the old town, ate and shopped... A LOT. By the time our day was done it was dinner time so we ordered tapas and a litre of sangria which came out to us with metre long straws – it was an art figuring out how to use them without causing spillage. We then wandered back home along the harbour, shopping some more at the twilight markets.

The following day we were up early and off to the beach > Palma Nova. It was perfect and the weather was absolutely divine. After baking for a few hours we went back to the harbour and boarded our catamaran cruise. We laid out on the boom nets as we sailed to our secret beach, getting some big splashes along the way, we were cooked a bbq lunch, drank some sangria, swam and jumped off the boat until the time came to go home. All in all, a fantastic day (except for the tragic fact that my plastic watch fell through the boom net – can u believe that Heather rejoiced in this moment?)! We went and had yummy nutella crepes with strawberries for the second night straight – delish!

Tomorrow = early start – we’re headed for the south coast of Spain – Cadiz!
