Venice, Venice, Venice

I loved this city. It was different, beautiful and a maze. We got lost winding through narrow paths trying to get from A to B. So we ate, shopped and took photos along the way. It was just as I had imagined and just as I had hoped. There were gondolas with men in sailor stripes, the streets were narrow and hard to navigate through and there were little bridges everywhere. The weather was beautiful and warm so we decided to catch the ferry over to Lido Beach to bake over the afternoon. We went via Piazza San Marco which was extremely impressive but oh so packed with tourists. We wandered through Lido – an island right by Venice, to the long sprawling beach which actually had sand – a pleasant surprise after the pebbles of Croatia, however as it got later we had to take cover behind sun lounges to hide from the wind. We headed back to our hostel and met a bunch of the other peeps staying. We all went on the pub crawl sometime before midnight and made it home before daylight. We argued with the Americans, ate pizza and bar hopped. All in all, it was a good night.

On our second day we did lots of walking and wandering around Venice, checking out the must see tourist sights and making purchases. We walked over the Rialto Bridge and got lost in the maze of unorganised alleyways. Then (whilst it wasn’t on the canals and admittedly I didn’t feel so much like I was in Venice anymore) we went on a beautiful walk down the Zattere. Venice was a wonderland and it was great travelling with an old friend. We were able to pick up right where we had left off, as we played pranks, counted who could disturb the most tourist photos and Kristelle shared some ridiculous children’s jokes.

A bus and a train later, I arrived in Vienna 8 hours later to wind and rain, relived I had escaped the Vienna weather for Italy’s sunshine...
